Yarraville Community Centre Woodwork Project - Carry-all

In this hands-on workshop, you’ll build confidence using a range of common household tools while learning safe, practical techniques under the guidance of Rob. Across the session, you’ll get comfortable with the basics—how tools work, when to use them, and how to handle them safely—so you can tackle everyday home tasks with ease.

You won’t just walk away with new skills. You’ll also take home your very own carry‑all (toolbox), to stock with the essential tools you’ve learned to use, so you can keep practising and putting your new abilities to work straight away.

This workshop is designed especially for beginners who want to feel more capable, independent, and handy around the home. No prior experience is needed—just curiosity, enthusiasm, and a willingness to give things a go.

All materials are provided.

What you will learn

  • measuring, marking, and hand-sawing techniques

  • hand drilling and hand screwing

  • using clamps

  • using spade bits and power drills

  • using nails and hammers

  • an idea of the cost to purchase your own tools for future projects

  • how to make a simple carry-all (toolbox)

What you will get

  • knowledge of basic tools

  • take home a carry all you have completed

What you need to bring

  • wear old clothes and closed-in shoes

  • water bottle
